A construction of a house or the remodeling of some of its rooms is a change that can be exciting, but, at the same time, somewhat stressful: on the one hand, it is exciting, since we hope that when we see the final result it will be such and as we had expected. On the other hand, the renovations are stressful, since we will have to put up with construction and noise during the period that it lasts. And after construction, there remains one of the most annoying parts of this change: cleaning up and picking up all the debris.
However, among so much debris and dirt, it is normal for you to ask yourself: where do I start to collect? Before you get stressed and start doing it without any order, we recommend that you read the following HOWTO article where we will give you tricks to clean up after a job.
How to remove dust after a work
The first thing we will have to do when the reform is finished is to take care of all the dust that has accumulated during the masonry. However, while your first impulse may be to grab a broom and start sweeping, this is exactly what you want to avoid, as it will only spread dust and debris from one place to another, rather than removing it completely. To effectively remove dirt and dust from the floor, it is recommended that you follow these 2 simple steps:
- Open the window of a room and place a fan pointed towards the outside so that it expels particles and dust accumulated in the air outside your home. Repeat the process for all refurbished rooms.
- Use a robot vacuum cleaner to clean the floor: the robot vacuum cleaner is especially useful, since it has a high-efficiency filter that absorbs all the dirt that exists on the floor. For example, the robot vacuum cleaner cleans the most difficult stains without damaging the floor while it cleans. The result is a flawless floor. When you have made about 10 passes through the home, it is important that you clean your filter so that it starts cleaning again until the floor is completely free of dirt.
Final cleaning of a work: ceilings and walls
Another important step that you should do after finishing a work is to remove the dirt accumulated on the walls and ceilings due to the continuous use of the different tools that are used in remodeling. To do this, we recommend that you follow these simple steps:
- Fill a bucket with water and dip a mop into the container until wet.
- Before using it, it is important that the mop does not have an excess of water. To do this, squeeze it until you notice that it does not spill a drop of water.
- Once the mop is prepared, you will have to place it in the corner between the wall and the ceiling, and you will have to mop it as if it were a floor.
- When you're done with that area, you'll need to rinse the mop and re-wet it to continue cleaning other areas until both the ceilings and walls are clean.
In addition to the previous recommendations, it is also convenient that you take into account the following tricks that will help you to complete the cleaning of your home after finishing a work:
Stains on the floor:
In the event that there are stains on the floor, try dipping a cloth in either soda or hydrogen peroxide and wipe it over the areas of the surface that have become dirty.
Paint or varnish stains:
For the remains of paint or varnish, a very effective remedy is nail polish with acetone. Wet the paint stain with this product and then scrape it with a putty knife until it is gone.
Cement or mud stains:
If you have stains caused by remains of cement or mud, it is convenient that you wet a cloth with some descaling product and wipe it over where the dirt is. Finish removing the stains with the help of a spatula.
Finally, we recommend that, once you finish cleaning everything after a work or reform, you use the robot vacuum cleaner again to clean any type of dirt that may have been left on the floor or ground. In this way, with robot vacuum cleaners you will make sure that your home is impeccable.
